Proven Methods and Teamwork Generate Success
Our project management approach integrates two fundamental concepts to build success: firstly, we begin with proven, effective methods built up through experience and, secondly, we take advantage of the synergistic benefits of teamwork. We recognize that reinventing the wheel serves no purpose and that a strong project team needs to be able to draw upon the skills and resources that each and every party brings to the project. The combination of business acumen and technical expertise, together with their tight interaction, helps to ensure the success of each project.
Premiertec’s Guiding Principles
To deliver quality Information Technology projects, it is important to go beyond merely securing technically capable people. The Premiertec team places a high value on delivering systems that produce results and recognise time, effort and cost constraints. Outlined below are the principles that we work by and which have proven to make a major difference as part of our project management approach.
- 1 | Start Projects Correctly
-
The project start up phase is a critical time when we establish the project’s definition and our commitment to our client. This initial phase creates the framework for the rest of the project and it is essential that we have a clear understanding of our client’s requirements. It is not uncommon for Premiertec Project Managers to obtain confirmation of objectives and direction, elicit approval and guidance from senior executives to our client’s project management. It is through regular dialogue and subsequent validation of our clients’ needs that Premiertec ensures that the focus centres on the important and high priority requirements. This helps Premiertec understand and be sensitive to what is at stake in the project and what the impact of the decisions have on each stakeholder.
- 2 | Define the Project Scope to Set Expectations
-
The Project Managers work together to define the scope of the work and the terms of engagement. The scope defines the project and keeps the team focused on its primary goals.
- 3 | Manage the Project to Minimise Risks
-
All IT projects have an element of risk inherent in them, however, it is the Project Managers’ responsibility to minimise and pre-empt them. They work together to continuously identify potential risks, analyse their impact, define containment measures and establish contingency plans. Any change in scope, approach, or design can pose a risk to the project and so every change requires a thorough assessment before it is incorporated into the plan. Unexpected risks would leave the team unprepared for any adverse impact to the overall schedule or the quality of the system.
- 4 | Field a Winning Team to Enable Success
-
As a leader, the Premiertec Project Manager knows that success can prove all too elusive without a strong and coherent project team. Premiertec’s project manager establishes a winning team profile and then selects the right blend of players to fit that profile, even if they have to be engaged externally. Premiertec’s project manager then ensures that he brings out the best in each member of the team.
- 5 | Maintain Team Commitment
-
The Premiertec Project Manager ensures all team members work towards a common goal. Fostering teamwork means helping those who need it, preparing one another for challenges and supporting one another when resources are required. Enjoying the experience is important when completing the work. All team members have a duty to maintain focus but also should take pleasure in being part of a committed, winning team.
- 6 | Communicate with Honesty & Conviction
-
Experience shows that open and candid communication facilitates the efficient delivery of services. Premiertec and its clients work together to maintain open channels of communication throughout the life of a project. Premiertec’s standards for communication are built upon accuracy, timeliness, and honesty. Led by the Premiertec Project Manager, every Premiertec team member applies these standards in their day-to-day communications.
- 7 | Use the Project Management Plan as the Baseline
-
The Project Management Plan is the medium for communicating exactly how Premiertec and the project team intend to fulfil their commitments on the Project. By following standards, guidelines and procedures, the team produces consistently high quality. By design, the Project Management Plan incorporates the collective experience of the team into the services that Premiertec provides.
The Project Management Plan is a key deliverable which the project manager uses as a guide to control the project and maintain the high level of quality we insist on.
- 8 | Produce Formal Documentation to Record Agreements & Decisions
-
Without exception, any commitment made by Premiertec is done so in writing with both parties documenting their respective obligations. This protects the interests of both the client and Premiertec as well as maintaining a record of all key decisions. With changes in the business and technical environment, adjustments in staff and project complexity, the project team must be able to easily trace the decision process to avoid reinvention and redundant discussions.
- 9 | Plan for Completion
-
Customers rely on and trust in Premiertec to be part of their vision. Whether the requirements, and the solutions to these requirements, are simple or complex, Premiertec supports the customer through to completion. Project closure marks the beginning of the system’s life. Premiertec’s Project Managers believe the real triumph comes at the end of the project when their client begins to use the results of the project.
